Hosted Fly Fishing Trips

Take the guesswork out of destination fly fishing.

Angler’s Choice Fly Fishing offers hosted trips for anglers who want to experience world-class fisheries without having to manage every detail themselves. From travel planning and lodge coordination to gear preparation and on-the-ground logistics, the goal is to make destination fishing more approachable, organized, and enjoyable.

I’m Andrew Milliorn, owner and guide behind Angler’s Choice Fly Fishing in Austin, Texas. I guide and teach throughout the Texas Hill Country and work with anglers at all experience levels, from first-time fly fishers to those preparing for larger destination trips. My approach is built around education, preparation, safety, and helping anglers feel confident before they ever step onto the water.

Costa Rica Hosted Tarpon Trips

Our Costa Rica hosted trips focus on the Caribbean side of the country in the Río Colorado and Barra del Colorado region, an area known for resident tarpon, tropical rainforest, rivers, lagoons, and quick access to the Caribbean Sea.

The fishery operates year-round, but two of the strongest seasonal windows are generally:

Spring — February through mid-June
Fall — mid-August through November

Tarpon are the primary target, with additional opportunities for species such as snook, jack crevalle, snapper, barracuda, tripletail, and other tropical species depending on conditions.

These trips are designed around small groups, guided fishing, comfortable accommodations, and having the major travel and fishing logistics coordinated in advance.

Fall 2026 Hosted Trip

October 25–28, 2026
2½ Days of Guided Fishing
Limited Availability

Our Fall 2026 hosted trip is already confirmed and will move forward regardless of whether every available space is filled.

The itinerary includes a half-day of fishing after arrival, followed by two full fishing days before returning home.

This trip is currently being offered at a special hosted-trip rate, with individual accommodations for each angler rather than double occupancy.

Contact Angler’s Choice Fly Fishing for current availability, pricing, deposit information, and complete trip details.

Spring 2027 — Now Building Interest

If a fall trip doesn’t work with your schedule, we are currently building interest for a Spring 2027 Costa Rica hosted tarpon trip.

Spring falls within another prime seasonal window for this fishery and offers another opportunity to experience large tarpon on Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast.

Exact dates, package pricing, and availability will be announced as the trip is finalized.

There is no need to wait until dates are formally announced to start the conversation. Early interest helps us plan group size, accommodations, and the best available travel window.

What to Expect on a Hosted Trip

One of the biggest advantages of traveling with Angler’s Choice is having someone handle the moving pieces.

I’ll help coordinate:

  • Lodge and outfitter communication

  • Group travel planning

  • Local and lodge transfers

  • Trip itineraries and travel-day information

  • Gear recommendations and rigging

  • Packing and baggage guidance

  • Pre-trip preparation

  • Communication with the group before departure

The goal is simple: you prepare for the fishing while I help manage the logistics.

Fishing Gear & Preparation

Destination tarpon fishing can require equipment that many freshwater anglers do not already own.

For Costa Rica trips, destination-provided tackle may be available, and I’m happy to help anglers determine what they should bring versus what they can use on location.

Typical fly setups may include:

  • Ocean: 14-weight fly rod with sinking line and a heavy-duty saltwater reel

  • Backcountry: 9-weight fly rod with floating line and a heavy-duty saltwater reel

  • Lighter backcountry fishing: 6-weight fly rod with floating line and a saltwater-capable reel

I can also assist with gear selection, rigging, and outfitting before departure.

For anglers who want more focused preparation, I offer private pre-trip casting instruction at an additional cost, including work with heavier rods, line management, distance, and saltwater casting situations.

Who Are These Trips For?

Hosted trips are not limited to expert saltwater anglers.

They can be a great fit for anglers who:

  • Want to take their first international fishing trip

  • Want help navigating travel and destination logistics

  • Are new to saltwater fly fishing

  • Want to improve their casting before departure

  • Prefer traveling with a small group

  • Want access to an established fishery without planning the entire trip themselves

  • Simply want to spend a few days chasing big fish somewhere new

Experience helps, but preparation and a willingness to learn go a long way.
